The next Aging & Disability Network meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11th 2-3:30 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park http://www.stedwardsny.org/directions.html . Please let me know if you plan on attending next week’s meeting. Feel free to extend the invitation to others you think would be interested in participating. Attached is a flyer for the event to assist in promotion.

This month we will be hearing from a panel of representatives speaking on the topic of home and safety modifications and an overview of a variety of adaptive equipment to assist those we serve to remain independent and safe. Panelists will include:

  • Nicholas Schrader, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, CGP, Schrader & Company, Inc.
  • Cheryl Lawyer, Coordinator of Outreach Services, Northeastern Association for the Blind
  • Karen Thayer, Executive Director, Southern Adirondack Independent Living Center
  • Karl Francis, Community Outreach Advocate, Capital District Center for Independence, Inc.
  • Pamela Schorr, OTR, Occupational Therapist, Weston Paxxon Rehab Services
I would like to thank Saratoga United Methodist Church for hosting last month’s meeting as well as the panel of presenters from several Saratoga County Departments including Carol Clark, Supervisor of Adult and Family Services, Saratoga County Department of Social, Ben Nichols, Aging Services Specialist, HEAP & NY Connects Coordinator, Saratoga County Office of Aging, and Terri Stortz, Director of Preventative Health Services, Saratoga County Public Health Nursing Service. Meeting minutes will follow.

Note that our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 2-3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa, 202 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Our speaker will be Maurice Padula, Senior Consumer Frauds Representative, Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection, Office of New York State Attorney General.
