Topic: "Neurological Disorders 101"
**We will hold meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, 2:00-3:30 p.m., unless otherwise indicated.
“Our mission is to promote community awareness of the programs and services available to Saratoga County residents who are aging and/or disabled, and their caregivers, so as to better meet the needs of these ever increasing populations.”
Introductions & Announcements:
• Opening/Introduction-Cindy Harrington
• Shelters of Saratoga will hold their First Annual Gala on 4/7/11 at Longfellow's. Tickets are $150. per person.
• Reminder: Inter-agency Awareness Day is Wednesday, 3/16/11, at the Skidmore College Dance Theatre
Speakers: Five Panelists: "The Umbrella of Care"
1. Sharon O'Sullivan-Director, Schuyler Ridge Adult Day Healthcare
2. Christine Galka-Case Manager, Home Healthcare Partners
3. Rebecca Zohn-Upstate Director, Concepts of Independence, Inc.
4. Lorrie Shilling-Director of Marketing, The Wesley Community (Lorrie also does admissions for assisted and independent living at Maplewood Manor.)
5. Diane Brown-Administrator, Maplewood Manor
Each panelist discussed, in great detail, the types of care and services provided at their facilities. All panelists talked about the requirements for admission to their programs/facilities. In addition, the matter of how long it takes to be accepted to a program/facility was explained. The list of nursing homes in the Saratoga area was reviewed.
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held on April 12, 2011, from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., at Saratoga United Methodist Church, 175 5th Avenue, Saratoga Springs. The topic will be "Neurological Disorders 101," presented by Beth Smith-Boivin, Director of the Alzheimer's/Dementia Resource Program at the Alzheimer's Center at Albany Med. The presentation will include a discussion about the similarities, differences, and resources available for the most common neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Fronto-temporal dementia, and Multi-vascular dementia.
