Introductions: Ben Nichols, Aging Services Specialist of Saratoga Co. OFA welcomed attendees and announced that the next meeting will be April 9th at the United Methodist Church in Saratoga Springs.

Speaker #1: Amy Hughes, Director of the Saratoga County Veteran’s Peer to Peer Mentoring Program provided an overview of this new federally funded program. As one of only 4 counties in NYS, this program is designed to help reduce the incidence of suicides in returning veterans. They are looking for mentors and mentees. Mentees can be any person with war time experience. Their purpose is to provide another safety-net for veterans to help encourage relationship formation and helping them to achieve personal goals. Mentors meet with vets for coffee/lunch and have confidential, friendly conversations. Mentors are coached to make referrals to services as needed. Speaker #2: Frank McClement, Service Officer for the Saratoga County Veteran’s Service Agency. Frank provided an overview of the role of their agency and the service supports that they provide. The goal is to be an advocacy agency to help veterans access support resources. Mr. McClement reviewed Disability Compensation, Healthcare Programs, No-Service Connect Program, Dependency & Indemnity Benefits, National Cemetery Burial Benefits, Blindness Annuity, Property Tax Benefits and the “Return the Favor” discount card.
